John:
What I was trying to get across, however incoherently :^), is that
in the model where a URN is a persistent, location independent reference;
a URL is a location dependent reference which can be used for direct
access to a resource (modulo firing up FTP or whatever); and a given
URN may map to many URLs which may point at many resources in different formats,
that there may be some information common to all instantiations of a given
resource on the net (such as author, date of publication, etc.) which could
very well be considered metainformation associated with the URN. There is
additional metainformation (such as cost, type, etc) which may be unique for
each instantiation, which should be associated with the URL. When I say
'associated with', I don't mean 'encoded inside', I mean 'retrievable
by lookup of metainformation' and 'logically associated with'. So I wasn't
proposing anything that broke any of the recent models.
