I agree with the recent postings: to keep the URL human-readable, the
type specifier should distinct from the file/pathname. During the
transition from human involvement in URLs, readability will be crucial
for acceptance.
As for spelling the words out, vs. initials, I am ambivalent. For
readabilty and acceptance, spelling out is the obvious choice. OTOH, with
each addtition, URLs are getting longer and longer. Then again, ascii,
image, tenex (what is tenex??) are short words...then again, directory?
