I vote FOR the inclusion of the url: prefix. There are two main
reasons for my vote, cosistency and human readability.
As an aside (backing up my send reason), I have slipped url's into
an electronic journal I edit that is sent to over 10,000 readers.
The url's have been slipped in over the last six months, with only
a little meta data at the beginning. Despite the fact that the
journal's readership is mostly non-technical, there has been nary
a complaint about the inclusion of the information. I have even
stopped including standard English explanations of online access
to materials, and just included the url. The url's always include
a prefix and a wrapper.
Unix is full of the arcane and implicit, let's help out by making
things a little clearer with the addition of 4 chars.
