In the interest of sentence #1 above I should have a rudimentary whois++ libwww
module by mid next week. So far it doesn't handle escaped characters
in the whois++ sense so your terms have to be simple but basically
the URL follows this syntax:

<URL:x-whois++://host:port/[URL-escaped(whois++_escaped(search_command))]>

which would give you:

<URL:x-whois++://merlin.gatech.edu:7070/template=user;name=Michael\%20Mealling>

(now if I can just keep Mosaic from dumping core when I go to actually start
writing to HTStructured *target.....)
