I recommend this as an example of 'systems that might use URCs', and
part of the development of a clearer understanding of when and why we
might want to have URCs.
I'll want to put together a 'URI working group task list' soon.
Without poking at the notes, this is what I have off the top of my
head:
URL requirements: done
URL specification: nearly nearly done
relative URLs: to be started
URN requirements: done
URN specification: to be discussed, many open issues
URC requirements: to be discussed, need editor?
URC specification: to be discussed, not many issues yet
LIFN specification: to be discussed?

Subject: Dienst, A Protocol for a Distributed Digital Document Library
X-Listprocessor-Version: 6.0c -- ListProcessor by Anastasios Kotsikonas
Jim Davis and I recently submitted an Internet Draft describing Dienst, a
protocol for communication with distributed digital library servers.
This protocol is embedded within HTTP. You are invited to look at the
protocol document, available in HTML at
http://cs-tr.cs.cornell.edu/Info/dienst_protocol.html or in ASCII at
ftp://nis.nsf.net/internet/documents/internet-drafts/draft-lagoze-dienst-protocol-00.txt You might also want to look at a prototype
implementation of dienst at http://cs-tr.cs.cornell.edu. We welcome
your comments.
