In response to our agreement to make copy of the X/Open publication

X/Open Preliminary Specification
Federated Naming: The XFN Specification
July 1994
X/Open Document P403, ISBN 1-85912-045-8

available to the URI WG for the purposes of alignment of their work with
this X/Open specification, I am pleased to advise that it is now available
in postscript form via anonymous ftp from X/Open.

Relevant email exchanges establishing this arrangement include
- 28 Sep 1994: 11:25:14 PDT from Larry Masinter to
(m.lambert 12575,p.janecek 9592,r.vasudevan 23)

Since availability of this electronic copy is intended only to members of
the URI WG, access via ftp is restricted by a password, which is only
being circulated (by this email) to the URI WG (uri@bunyip.com).

The following dialogue may offer helpful guidance when doing ftp access
for this document (as well as providing the essential password):

ftp ftp.xopen.co.uk
Connected to ftp.xopen.co.uk.
220 xopen FTP server (Version wu-2.4(11) Fri Sep 9 13:09:24 BST 1994) ready.
Name (ftp.xopen.co.uk:,user-name.):XoFedName
331 Password required for XoFedName.
Password:Mart1n (Please Note the upper case "M" and the digit "1")
230 User XoFedName logged in. Access restrictions apply.
Remote system type is UNIX.
Using binary mode to transfer files.
ftp> dir

You should then see all the files which can be retrieved.

Note that the essential printout of the document is
front
text
index
and that the "fig*.ps" files are also being made available because some
of them do not appear in the printout of the "text" file (owing to an
encapsulated postscript problem we have not yet resolved).

The printout of this ftp copy of the X/Open XFN specification is specially
identified in two ways:

1. the title page and every odd-numbered page footer includes the words:
"for IETF review"

2. the words
"IETF review"
appear in ghost print diagonally across every page.

If you require further information, please contact me.

Regards,

Ian.
